BAREND OUTRAISES KUHL
The People vs. Special Interests
Corning, NY. - As Election Day closes in, Samara "Sam" Barend, the Democratic candidate seeking to represent New York's 29th district in the U.S. Congress, has raised more than her opponent and has twice as much cash on hand.
According to the most recent Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing, Barend reported raising $204,767, while her opponent, Randy Kuhl, reported receiving $203,327. Barend's total cash on hand, $334,103, far surpasses that of her opponent, who reported having $143,528 on hand.
"The greatest strength of my campaign is the grassroots support I have received," said Barend. "My opponent received 75% of his contributions from special interests groups - such as pharmaceutical, oil, and tobacco companies - while 75% of my campaign contributions come from individuals."
"I have heard from voters across the 29th district who believe that I share their values, and they want me to represent them in Washington, D.C. with honor and integrity," said Barend.
The most recent FEC filing covers the period from August 26th to September 30th.
"I do not come from great personal wealth, nor can I tap into decades of special interest connections like my opponent," said Barend. "I want to thank the many individual contributors who have donated nearly $100,000 more to me than to my opponent during the most recent FEC filing period. More than 2,000 individuals in 48 states have contributed to my campaign, demonstrating the widespread energy and support our campaign is attracting."
Barend, a Southern Tier native, is best known for her work spearheading the conversion of New York Route 17 into Interstate 86. She is also the founder and Executive Director of Minds of Steel, a New York State nonprofit organization that promotes the connection between exercise in preventing and addressing mental illness.
