So, do you watch Reality TV? Do you TiVo Survivor and The Apprentice? Ever notice how Reality TV has almost nothing to do with reality?
PurpleOcean.org has launched a new initiative aimed at making Reality TV reflect reality. It's called AmericanReality.tv.
AmericanReality.tv will send a memo signed by thousands of Americans to executives at ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, UPN, and the WB. The memo calls for:
[A] show about real people with real problems and real solutions... Help those of us in the O.C. to see what life is like in Iowa instead of the other way around. Open America's eyes to the drama that's right in front of them.
More after the jump.
What do you think about Reality TV? Do you think a show about actual reality would be interesting, or even a hit? Do you have any ideas for such a show?
I know that many people consider Reality TV the ultimate in escapism. Sure, escapism is good some of the time, but when TV is the chosen form of entertainment for such a large portion of the world does escapism become a problem? Do we start becoming detached from reality?
Does escapism create apathy towards reality? I wonder if there is a correlation between time spent watching TV (especially Reality TV) and voting rates. Thoughts?
